When it comes to flat roofing, many people think it’s just about the surface. However, a well-installed flat roof requires a more comprehensive approach - one that considers the entire roof envelope. This includes all the interconnected components that work together to protect the building from the elements, such as weather, moisture, and temperature fluctuations.
Recently, we had the opportunity to apply this expertise to a well-known local business - a McDonald's restaurant.
The Challenge: Parapet Wall Leaks
One of the biggest challenges with this project was addressing the parapet walls. These walls, originally clad with steel flashing, had numerous seams that had become vulnerable over time, allowing water to seep through. Left unaddressed, these leaks could have led to costly damage to the building’s structure and interior.
Our Solution: A Seamless, Watertight Roofing System
- Duro-Last Membrane Installation – Instead of relying on traditional steel flashing, we extended the Duro-Last membrane from the roof surface up and over the parapet walls.
- Heat-Welded Seams – Every seam was heat-welded to create a seamless, monolithic barrier that effectively prevents water infiltration.
- Enhanced Durability – This approach not only eliminates leak points but also provides a long-lasting, low-maintenance roofing solution designed to withstand the elements.
Why a Holistic Approach to Flat Roofing Matters
By addressing the entire roof envelope - not just the surface - we were able to provide a high-performance roofing system that ensures this McDonald's location remains well-protected for years to come. Whether it’s a restaurant, office, or industrial space, proper roof design and installation can make all the difference in preventing costly repairs and disruptions.
At the end of the day, a strong roof is just as important as the quality of service inside the building. And just like McDonald's is committed to consistency and excellence in its food, we bring the same level of dedication to every roof we install!
